Orchiectomy is performed for trans women who would like to avoid, or stop taking testosterone blockers such as Spironolactone, which can have significant long term side effects.....or who simply wish to improve the dysphoria associated with having testicles. Testosterone production stops immediately with removal of the testes, and accelerates the feminizing effects of estrogen therapy, inducing feminization in those who cannot use estrogen due to expense or medical contraindications.
Dr. Sherie will also perform orchiectomy for cis males who do not wish to transition, with a recommendation from a licensed mental health professional.
For those who are considering vaginal creation in the future, the scrotal skin is left intact and a small incision is made through the middle of the scrotum to perform the orchiectomy. The scrotal skin will retract (shrink) toward the body, following removal of the testes. For trans women who do not plan to pursue vaginoplasty in the future, the scrotal skin can be removed, leaving a very light, thin scar and a smooth area from the base of the penis to the anus.
